The second-ranked King’s girls and fourth-ranked King’s boys both finished second at last Saturday’s Cascade Conference cross country championships.
Heidi Peterson led a pack of four King’s seniors that cracked the top 10 in the girls race. Peterson placed sixth in 20:42, one spot ahead of teammate Melody Miles (20:49). Laura Coghlan (21:02) was ninth and Heidi Kieling (21:11) was 10th.
South Whidbey swept second through fifth to clinch the team title with 30 points to 44 for the Knights.
In the boys race Alex Croutworst took third in 16:59 and Brent Woodham was ninth in 17:41. Rounding out the top five for King’s were Jeff Dull (13th, 18:03), Evan Dull (14th, 18:03) and Brian Pflugrath (20th, 18:25).
Lakewood runners occupied four of the top six places for a team total of 31 points. King’s (60) beat out South Whidbey (66) for second.
