The Edmonds Arts Festival gets its 48th annual celebration of the arts underway June 17 on the grounds of the Frances Anderson Center.
The festival highlights the work of nearly 240 artist exhibitors, finalists selected from a field that draws applicants from a dozen states and Canada. A variety of two- and three-dimensional art is represented and available for sale, including oils, watercolors, pastels, drawings, mixed media, photography, sculpture, textiles, jewelry, glassworks, toys, collectibles, metal, pottery and furniture. In addition, the Frances Anderson Center hosts more than 750 artists in a juried Gallery Exhibition. More than $12,000 in prizes is expected to be awarded to Gallery exhibition artists.
A special attraction in the festival is the Junior Art Exhibit, In the Junior Art Fest, where artwork by children 5 through 18 living within the boundaries of the Edmonds School District has been juried and school-selected. The top 20 young artists are selected for Best of Show art scholarship awards, and an additional 100 student artists will be awarded honorable mention recognition.
The “Kids Creative Corner” will offer additional activities for children including face painting, hands-on art projects such as tie dye T-shirts, paper crafts, button buddies, mobiles and picture frames, and live entertainment by jugglers, storytellers, and musicians.
The 2005 limited-edition EAF poster by Edmonds Artist Joan Archer, and the junior poster by Martha Lake Elementary student Alexis Mrozik, will be available for purchase at the official festival store, along with commemorative clothing, souvenirs and posters from past Edmonds Arts Festivals.
Live entertainment on the Main Stage (all ages) and the Wine and Bistro Bar (21 and over) will run throughout the three day event. Festival food, provided by 31 food and beverage vendors, is also available for purchase.
Festival admission is free. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 19, Father’s Day.
