Iraq war
Drumbeat for war needs countering
Three cheers for Bill Sheets’ well thought out column (The Enterprise, Feb. 7).
Make that a stadium full of cheers – for saying what needs to be said. And not once, but every day, to counter the round-the-clock beat of the Bush war drums.

Voice of the people is not being heard
Re. “Just A Thought” column, “Iraq War Would Be Huge Mistake” (The Enterprise, Feb. 7).
I read that other governments are lining up behind America, even though their citizens are against a war. I feel that President Bush is going ahead no matter what we say. I don’t think the voice of the people is being heard anymore, anywhere. I wonder what our founding fathers would think.
The terrorists are winning. After we go broke on a war with Iraq, and place our boys in harm’s way surrounded by Muslim extremists, that’s when the terrorists will strike again. It’s a lot like Muhammad Ali’s famous rope-a-dope strategy. Only we are being the dopes.
If you don’t think the terrorists are capable of this kind of planning, remember, they killed thousands and did billions of dollars of damage to America with boxcutters.

Bush is being a bully by pushing us to war
Bush is a bully on the world stage, and his bloodlust shames our nation.
Bush tells us that he will bring peace by making war. “Peace Through War?”
Does anyone really believe this blatant falsehood? Who will benefit from the Bush II war? Follow the oil money.
The Bush administration is a “Weapon of Mass Distraction.” We managed to contain the Soviet Union for decades without war. Why the rush now? Could it have anything to do with the fact that if Bush does not attack before summer, he must wait until next year, and next year is – guess what? A presidential election year.
Bush’s domestic policies are damaging the economy, job creation, medicare, social security, the environment, women’s and minorities rights, reproductive choice, the federal judiciary, education, conservation efforts-the list is longer than space allows. With Iraq, Bush hopes to “Wag the Dog” – get Americans focused elsewhere.
Bush prefers war to punish Saddam Hussein for not cooperating. The world wants the UN inspectors to continue their job, to find and destroy Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction.

What is this
world coming to?
I feel as though I have fallen down Alice’s rabbit hole and the whole world is topsy-turvy. Russia, China, Germany and France are the peacemakers? And the US is the agressor?? What is this world coming to?

Initiatives cripple
state’s functions
It is sad that Eyman can extract $200,000 or more from his campaign funds for his personal account. It is sad that Eyman can muster the votes to bankrupt our system.
With the aid of his bully boys he has severely damaged or eliminated the state’s ability to fund legitimate activities and functions.
Funding for child care, the poor, the sick, the elderly, have all been cut or eliminated in too many cases. The basics of police, fire protection, repair of roads and streets, transit and ferry service have all suffered at his hands. Eyman has pretty well scuttled the humanitarian functions of our great state of Washington.

Burglary
Items stolen were priceless memories
This is an open letter directed at the person(s) who walked into my house Wednesday, 2/5/03, and took whatever they wanted.
You not only stole items presented as birthday/Christmas gifts over the last 30 plus years, you stole my sense of well being in which I enjoyed not having to lock everything in order to maintain possession.
The camera you stole was my second eye. I cannot afford to replace what you stole, but every pawn shop in the state knows about the camera, so return it, please.

Something could be done now to beautify
If the idea is to beautify the Aurora corridor someone should remove the drab, lifeless plants in the median. They were a very poor choice.
