Volunteer’s hard work documents Arts Festival
On behalf of the Edmonds Arts Festival and Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation boards, we would like to express our appreciation to Darlene McLellan for the wonderful 50th year anniversary exhibit at the Edmonds Historical Museum. This exhibit reflects Darlene’s passion for documenting the 50-year history of this annual treasured family weekend in our community. Her vision for the exhibit and attention to detail in compiling and organizing the memorabilia showcases the evolution of the festival.
Thank you, Darlene, for your tireless efforts to create such a wonderful walk down memory lane commemorating 50 years of the Edmonds Arts Festival.

Election ‘07
Wilson will have a positive impact on city
I’m glad to see DJ Wilson is running for the Edmonds City Council. He’ll provide the sort of inclusive leadership the community needs. He’s the right person for this position.
Sometimes divisive disagreements about downtown issues seem to have dominated the work of the council in recent years. Yet what progress has been made in the midst of those debates?
Edmonds needs to continue to expand its circle of leaders to deal with the challenging issues facing a growing area. DJ is part of the next generation of leaders necessary to ensure the Edmonds we love is alive and well in the future. That’s why I’m pleased to endorse him in this race. He has the right skill-set to have an immediate, positive impact for the city.
As Snohomish County continues to grow rapidly, Edmonds needs council members who understand how to preserve both the charm and the vibrancy that has made it such a special place to call home. I know DJ has the ability to bring people together and turn that vision into reality.
While Edmonds City Council races are non-partisan, the astute observer may already know I’m a Republican and DJ is a Democrat. Yet I endorse him wholeheartedly.
I’m a lifelong resident of south Snohomish County and he’s exactly the kind of leader this community deserves.

Tree regulation
Lynnwood not a ‘Tree City’ anymore
Lynnwood once again has taken a big assault on its street trees, compliments of Jiffy Lube, on the northeast corner of 196th Street and SR99.
Six large trees fronting this auto lube business were removed last week and the other six are threatened. When you pass through this intersection, the feeling is of desolation since these trees have graced the corner for over 25 years.
More than six years ago, Jiffy Lube mutilated these same trees and was chastised by the then Lynnwood administration and fines were levied. The current administration just has no interest in enforcing Lynnwood’s current Tree Regulations and protecting Lynnwood’s beauty. Calling Lynnwood a “Tree City” has been a joke for many years and a drive on SR99 viewing the trees proves it.

National news
Are you ready for Emperor Bush?
It is time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. If you are a true patriot you will be appalled by what the president has done.
On May 9, while Congress was distracted by the question of the firing of some government attorneys, President Bush completed the first of two steps to elevate himself from the presidency to the throne as Emperor of the United States — and nobody noticed! The press has totally ignored the story, and Congress has their heads in the sand (as usual).
You don’t need to take my word for it, check out the National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive on the White House Web site for yourself: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/05/20070509-12.html
You can read more about Bush’s power grab at: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55824
Under this Presidential Directive, the president can assume dictatorial powers over all levels of government. He also takes direct control over private sector organizations. All the president needs to do to exercise this power is declare an incident a national emergency. This does not need to be a terrorist attack; a natural disaster or epidemic would be more than adequate. There have been countless events in our history that would have been sufficient to trigger this directive — Hurricane Katrina, the Spanish flu epidemic, the World Wars, even the civil rights protests.
It is important to note that there is no provision for any Congressional or judicial oversight or approval before the president takes control.
When will step two be exercised? When will Bush elevate himself to Emperor? You can count on this happening any time around the presidential elections and before he leaves office. In fact, it is likely that he will use his newly claimed powers to cancel the elections. I’m sure that there are operatives in the White House that are already planning to stage an event to trigger the directive.
Are you ready for another 40-plus years of rule by George Bush? Please spread the word. The government you save may be your own.
