Mill Creek is one of 92 cities across the state of Washington that will have a Walk Across Washington event next week.
Mill Creek’s event takes place on Friday, Oct. 14. The day was chosen, event organizer Sherrie Ringstad said, because local schools do not have classes that day.
“We are hoping to encourage student participation,” Ringstad said.
The walk is meant as a celebration of healthy lifestyles, drawing attention to the importance of regular physical activity for people of all ages. The walk is also intended to showcase parks and trails and overall walkability.
The approximately 3-mile walk begins at 12:15 p.m. at the Mill Creek Sports Park, goes north to Dumas Road, then connects to the North Creek Trail at the park and ride lot at McCollum Park and follows the trail south to the Town Center before concluding at the sports park.
State Reps. John Lovick, D-Mill Creek, and Hans Dunshee, D-Snohomish, will speak at the opening ceremonies, as will Mill Creek community development director Bill Trimm. Bottled water will be provided.
While the event is free, it does require registration and people can pre-register online at www.walkwashington.org. For more information, call Ringstad at 425-921-5717.
