Meadowdale has set the standard for Wesco 3A baseball teams, reaching the state semifinals two seasons in a row.

That didn’t stop rival Lynnwood from upsetting the Mavericks 6-0 March 24 in the Western Conference South Division opener for both teams.

“They’re the measuring stick,” Lynnwood coach Reggie Corns said.

Lynnwood starter Logan Kiser limited Meadowdale to one hit for six innings and Karl Rodriguez, who batted 2-for-3 with four RBI, provided all the runs the Royals needed with a two-run triple in the third inning.

Also for Lynnwood, Ryan Desimone hit a solo home run in the fourth and freshman Corey Hoerner (2-for-3, two runs) singled to start the Royals’ three-run, fifth-inning rally.
