LYNNWOOD — Medic 7 paramedics, who have been integrated into the Lynnwood and Edmonds Fire Departments as of Jan. 1, also have an administrative change, a new Medical Services Administrator.
Deb Ayres, who has been involved with Medic 7 since February 1997, has accepted a position as deputy chief of the medic unit at the Redmond Fire Department.
Paramedic Greg Macke is now the interim MSA for the medics at both of the fire departments. He was appointed by both city’s fire chiefs and recommended by Ayres and Dr. Jim Mercer at Stevens Hospital.
Macke said a final MSA will be decided on around May, after an internal testing process of interested paramedics.
The MSA position oversees emergency medical services, training, education and improvement of the paramedics at both the Lynnwood and Edmonds Fire Departments, “a major service component of today’s fire department,” Macke added.
While Macke and the MSA’s assistant Susan Liger are now employees of the City of Lynnwood, also as of Jan. 1, 2003, their office is still located at Stevens Hospital, Macke said. Edmonds contracts through Lynnwood for their services.
The MSA’s office is staying at the hospital for now, Macke said, for lack of space reasons at the Lynnwood Fire Department and because “we need to keep a strong relationship with the medical community,” Macke said.
Because Macke is filling the MSA position, Lynnwood is currently hiring at least one more paramedic to take his place in Lynnwood.
