LYNNWOOD — The mission to honor local veterans continues for Lynnwood’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1040.
Recently, members of Post 1040 installed memorial bricks in Lynnwood’s Veterans’ Park at 194th Street SW (Veterans Way) and 44 Avenue W. (across from the police station, to honor 11 combat dead from the Vietnam war who lived in Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and Alderwood Manor.
“The ongoing brick program is intended to honor America’s veterans and combat troops with inscriptions that serve as a permanent tribute to those who paid their dues in service to their country and flag,” said Martin Spani Post 1040 commander.
If the Post 1040 has missed anyone in this category who has a local home of record they would like to know so they can give them the honor as well.
“We are very proud of the accomplishments that we have done at Veterans Park,” Spani said. “All of the improvements have been totally bought and paid for by the Veterans of Lynnwood VFW Post 1040 and its Auxiliary.”
The veterans brick program is an ongoing project and there is plenty of space for other alive or deceased, honorable veterans to add their bricks for $25 each.
“We no sooner finish putting in one batch of bricks and begin preparing for another,” Spani said, “at present we have 288 inscribed bricks.”
The newest wall, at the west entrance to the park, was done by Boy Scout Joe McNulty, Troop 49, to earn his Eagle Scout award.
For more information about the bricks call the Post 1040 quartermaster, John Beam, at 425-742-0495.
