LYNNWOOD — Laura Gifford scored two unassisted goals and goalkeeper Tricia McMillan recorded the shutout to lead Meadowdale to an important 3-0 Western Conference South Division girls soccer victory over Shorecrest Tuesday at Lynnwood High School.

Meadowdale (3-1-1 league, 6-4-2 overall), which was eliminated from the 2002 district tournament by Shorecrest, gained the inside track for the Western Conference’s top seed to this year’s Northwest District 3A playoffs.

Meadowdale’s defense was stout, allowing only seven shots on goal with all of the shots coming from 18 yards and out.

“Our defense was good, we allowed no good penetration,” said Meadowdale coach Sean Griffin.

Shorecrest (3-2-0, 7-4-0) fell one point behind Meadowdale in the division standings.
