LAKE FOREST PARK —The Sheridan Beach Club in Lake Forest Park has made its Fourth of July celebration a private members-only event, said Sheridan Beach Board president Bruce Olson.
“It’s unfortunate, but we had to do it,” Olson said. “We had too many deeded members complain that there was no room to get into the beach, and since it’s a private club, they pay every year for the cost of the fireworks display, we had to make it members-only.”
Last year they had about 300 people attend the event.
Jerry Dahl, the pyrotechnician who has put on the fireworks display at Sheridan Beach for the past 10 years, encourages the community to seek other locations to watch the display, such as the Burke Gilman Trail or the Lyon Creek Waterfront Preserve.
“There are yards, the trail, the Civic Club and the new park for viewing,” he said.
Dahl said the club spends about $2,300 on the fireworks display each year and that the fireworks manufactures help him put together the show.
The display starts at 10:15 p.m. on July 4 and will go on for about 20 minutes.
