Mill Creek Little League’s 11-year-old all-star baseball team defeated Walla Walla 6-3 to win the state championship July 25 in Vancouver.

It was the first-ever 11-year-old all-star tournament in the state of Washington.

With the game tied 3-3 after six innings, Mill Creek scored three runs in the seventh, highlighted by Nick Kiel’s ground-rule double. Kiel then preserved the victory and the championship by retiring three straight batters in the bottom of the inning.

Other standouts included starter Tyler Kane, who pitched six strong innings, center fielder Ben Circeo, who reached base four times and scored two runs, and first baseman Derrick Grayson, who knocked in Mill Creek’s first two runs and squeezed the game’s final out with a stellar over-the-shoulder catch in foul territory.

With the victory, Mill Creek ended its postseason run a perfect 10-0, outscoring opponents 92-16.
