Now through Dec. 2, the Edmonds Arts Commission presents an exhibit of work by Seattle artist Jason Mouer in the Edmonds Arts Commission display case at the Frances Anderson Center in Edmonds.
The exhibit features sculptural forms created from stacked recycled paper that has been carved and sanded. Mouer’s goal as an artist is “to give shape to the intangible plurality of emotional experience while engaging the objective viewer’s gaze.” The artist engages a process-centered dialogue with the materials that he feels gives rise to a less contrived object, one that is a truer representation of himself and his overall relationship to the world around him. His exploration of paper arose from experiments blowing glass into paper molds. Following the exhibit in Edmonds, his work will be featured at the Foster White Gallery in Kirkland, from Dec. 12 to Jan. 5.
Mouer is a graduate of Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y. with an MFA from Illinois State University. He has extensive experience in ceramics and glass blowing. He has been a technical coordinator and teaching assistant at Pilchuck Glass Institute in Stanwood apd a production assistant at Chihuly Inc. in Seattle.
The Edmonds Arts Commission display case is located at the main entrance of the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St. in Edmonds. Hours are 9a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
