Lynnwood recently moved the historic Wicker’s building from its location across from Best Buy on Alderwood Mall Parkway in Lynnwood to the Heritage Park site at Poplar Way and Alderwood Mall Parkway.
It wasn’t easy.
Crews moved the building very carefully in the middle of the night April 5.
According to city officials, five traffic signals and a number of power lines had to be temporarily moved or adjusted to allow the building to pass.
The Wicker’s Building was moved to the Alderwood Mall Parkway location in 1998 as part of the construction of the new ramps for the I-5/196th Street SW interchange.
Construction of Heritage Park began in early December 2002 and is planned to be completed late this summer.
Lynnwood and its partners in the project, the Alderwood Manor Heritage Association and South Snohomish County Tourism Bureau, began planning for a historic park eight years ago as a way to feature Lynnwood’s historic structures and collections of artifacts. An original Interurban trolley and several local buildings, including the Wicker’s building, from the early 1900s will be restored and relocated to the 2.82 acre park. Approximately $1.8 million of federal, state and local funding is available for the first phase of the project, city officials said.
