The Cascadia Community College Festival of Short Films is slated to provide a full day of entertainment, insight and inspiration for movie enthusiasts.
Hollywood buffs, and even regular TV and movie watchers won’t want to miss the opportunity to hear real-life stories from people who have made successful careers in Los Angeles. Names such as Stewart Stern (author of the “Rebel Without a Cause” screenplay), “X-Files” Executive Producer Bob Goodwin and other Hollywood insiders will present informative sessions ranging from effective storytelling to tips for raising money for film production.
“We are really thrilled to have such big names join our first annual event,” said Cascadia film instructor Hank Sitko. “Even though we’re located in Bothell, there has been a lot of excitement from people in Hollywood about what we’re doing here.”
Students from universities, community colleges and high schools from the Puget Sound region have submitted short films that will be aired at the film festival. Awards will be provided for best film, best documentary, best animation, best high school film and best film voted by the audience. The city of Bothell TV station will also air the winners on BCTV 21.
“The student film submissions are really terrific,” said Gail Miulli, Cascadia dean for student learning. “We’re giving students an opportunity to gain publicity and visibility for their films that might not get off the ground at such an early stage. Maybe they’ll catch the eye of a Hollywood producer during our film festival.”
The Festival of Short Films will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 in Cascadia’s building. Each session is $15, or an all-day pass is available for $40.
