New school district director of finance

Mark Spangenberg has been recommended as the new director of finance and business services by Shoreline School District officials. The appointment is subject to approval by the Shoreline School Board.

Spangenberg is currently the executive director of fiscal services for the Monroe School District in Snohomish County, where he has worked since 1997.

He succeeds Sandra Nagli, who delayed her retirement to come to Shoreline.

Spangenberg began his work in Monroe as coordinator of accounting, became the director of fiscal services in 1999, and was promoted to executive director in 2006. In Monroe, he prepared 10 annual budgets, monthly financial and enrollment reports, and was responsible for financial management of $48 million in capital improvements.

Previously he served as the business manager for the Manson School District in Chelan County. He is a graduate of Central Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Spangenberg and his wife Theresa have two sons, Kent and Christopher.

Parent conferences rescheduled

With the Shoreline Schools closures on Dec. 17, 18 and 19, the elementary parent conferences on those days will be rescheduled. This applies to all elementary schools except Brookside, which is doing a conference pilot on different dates this year.

The schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, Dec. 17: Will be rescheduled as an elementary parent conference half-day for grades one to six on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Thursday, Dec. 18: Will be rescheduled as an elementary parent conference half-day for grades all-day kindergarten to sixth grade Thursday, Jan. 8. Half-day kindergarten will be on a regular schedule.

Friday, Dec. 19: Will be rescheduled as an elementary parent conference half-day for grades all-day kindergarten to sixth grade Friday, Jan. 9. Half-day kindergarten will be on a regular schedule.

Conferences scheduled for the evening would be rescheduled for the corresponding date.

If children were registered for the extended care program on Dec. 17, 18 or 19, they will automatically be registered for the same day or days of the week in January that they were originally registered for in December.
