EDMONDS

Tiny Mylin Nguyen wasn’t the first baby born in Snohomish County in 2007, but she has the distinction of being the first one born at Edmonds-based Stevens Hospital in the new year.

Hoa (Holly) and Mike Nguyen of Lynnwood welcomed their first child, a daughter, at 3:01 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1. She arrived in this world a few weeks early and weighed in at 4 pounds, 5 ounces.

A nurse in The Birth Center at Stevens reported the baby girl is “just beautiful, with lots of curly black hair. We just love her.”

Although there is no official county “clearing house” for first-baby reports, Providence Everett Medical Center seems to be the place Snohomish County hospitals call to give and get the information, according to Providence spokeswoman Cheri Russum.

A baby was born at Providence, she said, at 12:57 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington reported that a baby was born there at 1:52 p.m. Jan. 1. Valley General Hospital in Monroe had to wait until Wednesday, Jan. 3, to welcome its first baby of 2007.
