The Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation and the Edmonds Arts Commission are partnering to present the work of Barbara Benedetti Newton, an exhibit of the artist’s transition from the precision of colored pencil still life drawings to spontaneous pastel landscape paintings.

This Renton artist’s exhibit will feature her colored pencil still life, “Perfect Timing” which received the First Place Award in Drawing at the 2004 Edmonds Arts Festival.

Newton worked exclusively in colored pencil and still life compositions for more than a decade before moving into mixed media and most recently into pastel landscapes. This collection of work will include each of these mediums and demonstrate Newton’s transition and growth over the past 15 years.

The subject is light. While medium and subject may change, Newton’s fascination with light remains her focus.

A member of Women Painters of Washington, Newton is co-author of the best-selling “Colored Pencil Solution Book” by NorthLight Publishing. Her work can also be viewed at www.barbaranewton.net.

The exhibit will be on display now through Tuesday, Nov. 30 at the Frances Anderson Center, located at 700 Main Street in Edmonds. The EAFM Gallery and the City of Edmonds Arts Commission display case are located at the main entrance. There will be an Artist’s Reception from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 18 as part of the Third Thursday Art Walk event in Edmonds. The public is encouraged to come and meet the artist at that time.

The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and is closed on Sundays. For more information call 425-771-0228 or 425-771-1984.
