Just thought I would let the citizens of Edmonds know about our very kind and caring City Councilmember Dave Orvis. The day before the election, Dave Orvis contacted most of the people running for office in the Edmonds area to ask them if they wanted him to pick up their campaign signs when he was picking his up after the election; “really no trouble,” he indicated.
Dave was concerned about the gross amount of signs all over Edmonds and wanted to pick up the signs as quick as possible after election night so we could get our pretty city back.
Being a full-time working parent I jumped at the chance for some help!
I went to his home to pick up my signs he had collected and it was hard to picture without being present yourself. Mountains and mountains of almost every campaign sign you could see in Edmonds. Haakenson, Moore, Cooper, Radcliff, Bernheim, Marin, Olson, Fraley-Monillas and so forth; more and more piles all over his front yard.
I would guess he easily picked up over 1,500 signs.
I thought this was a very kind thing to do! He was picking up signs of the people who endorsed his opponent without complaint. To me, it showed an act of selflessness and a non-partisan approach to working together. I was very impressed about how much he really cares for our city.
I think sometimes during the heat of a campaign, candidates are looked at more for the stands they take and the words they use instead of the person they really are under all that talk.
My hat’s off to Dave for showing what our city is really made of!
