Parks and recreation readies full slate of classes, events for new year

Music, art and sports classes are among the activities being offered by Edmonds Parks and Recreation this month.

A six-week voice class for all singing styles will be held on Wednesdays beginning Jan. 17. Ages 8-16 will meet from 6:15-7 p.m. and adults from 7:15-8 p.m. The cost is $68 for children and $85 for adults.

Youth guitar for ages 13-18 will be held  from 7-8 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 17-Feb. 28. No experience is necessary but a guitar is required. The cost is $80.

Kidz Love Soccer offers a non-competitive, age-appropriate format in which children ages 2-12 can learn soccer skills, drills and strategies. Eight-week classes begin Friday, Jan 19.  The cost is $61.

Italic calligraphy is a 6-week course for beginners and calligraphers who wish a refresher course on the personal script adapted from 15th-century art forms. Classes meet from 10 a.m.-noon or 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 16-Feb. 20. The cost is $75.

Instruction on creating a personal mandala using white and colored pencils on black paper will be offered from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 16-Feb. 6. No art background is required. The cost is $45 plus a $10 supply fee.
