EVERETT — Summer really kicks into high gear for the kids this week with the opening of the petting zoo at Forest Park and the start of Jetty Island days.
Everett’s Animal Farm introduces kids to goats, sheep, ducks, hens, rabbits, calves and muddy pigs and reminds us all about Snohomish County’s agricultural past.
The Animal Farm is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Aug. 26 at Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd., Everett.
Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
Everett’s popular local island getaway, Jetty Island, opened for the season July 1.
Everett’s 2-mile-long beach oasis supplies water, warm sand and nature trails. It’s also popular with kite boarders.
Ferry boats leave seven days a week through Sept. 3 from the 10th Street Boat Launch and Marine Park at 10th and W Marine View Drive.
Visitors can park for free at Marine Park from Monday through Thursday; the Port of Everett charges a $3 parking fee on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Parking machines will accept credit cards.
Everett residents, with proof of residency, may reserve passes by calling 425-257-8304. Groups of eight or more, residents or not, may reserve space at least one week ahead. Return passes are available on the island.
