Mill Creek police are investigating the possibility that $50,000 to $100,000 has been embezzled from Mill Creek Little League funds.
League officials told police in November about an apparent discrepancy in their accounts, Mill Creek police detective Chris White said Monday, Jan. 10.
The police investigation has been on and off since then because the Little League “wanted to double check, they didn’t want to accuse anybody,” White said.
Now the case is in the hands of police.
“We’re still in the very early steps of the investigation,” White said.
The amount of money unaccounted for has yet to be determined, White said. The $50,000 to $100,000 figure is an unconfirmed estimate, the detective said.
Tom Davis, president of the Mill Creek Little League, declined comment.
“We have been instructed not to say anything at this point because of the ongoing investigation,” Davis said.
About 800 kids, ages 5-18, participate in Mill Creek Little League baseball and softball every year, Davis said. The organization raises funds primarily through sign-up fees and occasional donations from sponsors, he said.
Registration for the Little League’s 2005 season is 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Heatherwood Middle School, 1419 Trillium Blvd. SE. Sign-ups will continue from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at Mill Creek City Hall, 15728 Main St.
