If no news is good news, then Council member John Chang is still in the clear after being interviewed by police officials at the Seattle Police Department’s North Precinct on Feb. 10.

The matter is still being assessed by Seattle Police Department detectives, who are consulting with investigators with the Fraud Division of the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s office, said Dan Donahoe, spokesman for the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

“We are still reviewing at this point,” Donahoe said. “I don’t know that we will say anything additional until we finish the review.”

Chang’s attorney, Jeffrey Grant, said nothing has transpired since the Feb. 10 interview and Chang has not been questioned a second time. No charges have been filed and Chang has not been booked into jail.

“In terms of official news, I have none,” Grant said. “As far as any charges being filed, there has been no word.”

Grant speculated that it may be possible that nothing more is heard about the matter, and to the best of his knowledge, he is not aware that anything will come of Chang’s interview with police officials.

“I don’t know that we will hear anything at all,” Grant said. “We are encouraged that we haven’t heard anything else.”

Chang said he will continue to work with his attorney to fight the matter vigorously and “with every ounce of energy.” He said he is still attempting to figure out exactly what has happened.

“I have received so much support,” Chang said, “phone calls, people coming over and words of encouragement.”

Police officers came to the Quest Inn, located in the 14800 block of Aurora Ave. N, owned by Chang, late in the morning on Feb. 10. Chang was not yet at the business, but after his wife called him, he arrived within the hour. The officers told Chang they wanted to ask him some questions and invited him to accompany them to the police station.
