Shorecrest senior Erin Farquhar has decided to continue her basketball career close to home next season.
The 6-foot post recently accepted an offer from Pacific Lutheran University after visiting the Tacoma campus over the winter.
PLU advanced to the NCAA Division III Elite Eight in 2001-02 and has won the Northwest Conference title three of the past four years.
“I took (head coach Gil Rigell) some video and he said he liked what he saw and that I could contribute to the program,” said Farquhar, who plans to study nursing.
During the regular season, Farquhar led Shorecrest with 11.2 rebounds per game and was second in scoring with 7.5 points per game. She shot close to 40 percent from the field and is one of only two Scots to start every game.
Farquhar has logged 19 rebounds three times this year and 13 or more boards seven times.
“She’s been a great presence for us defensively and on the boards,” Shorecrest coach Don Dalziel said. “She just works awful hard. Finally it all clicked for her. She’s getting a lot of reps on the floor.”SCOTS FINISH UP: The Shorecrest boys basketball team concluded its season with losses to Kamiak and Meadowdale last week.
The Scots (3-15 league, 4-17 overall) dropped their final seven games — and 13 of their last 14 — to finish last in the Western Conference 4A South Division. Five of Shorecrest’s losses were by seven points or less.
Senior post Graham Morrisey led the Scots with 16.6 points per game and senior forward Tyson Cook averaged 13 points per game.
Fellow 3A schools Meadowdale and Lynnwood advanced to the Northwest District playoffs against the Northwest 3A League.
