Still nursing a strained hamstring, Edmonds-Woodway senior running back Kyle Trew didn’t see action in his team’s 35-14 victory over Shorecrest last week.

In his absence, junior Glenn Gallagher rushed for a career-high 272 yards on 27 carries.

“It gave Kyle a whole week off, which we really wanted to do,” E-W coach John Gradwohl said.

Gradwohl said Trew’s status is day-to-day and didn’t confirm if he would return for tonight’s game against Lynnwood.

“You just hope he keeps getting stronger and healthier,” Gradwohl said. “We don’t want him back until he can play at the level he can play at. Because that’s what we need — we need to have him at 100 percent.”

E-W WINS: The Edmonds-Woodway boys cross country team, ranked ninth in the state 4A poll, placed four runners in the top 16 positions to win the three-mile Mount Baker Invitational at Silver Lake Park in Deming.

Sam Brancheau led the Warriors with a 10th place finish. Kamiak was third and Sehome took third. The Warriors won the South Whidbey Invitational earlier this season.

Edmonds-Woodway senior Kelsey McCallum placed seventh overall in the girls race.
