With less than a month left in the regular season, King’s remains firmly planted at the top of the Washington State Cross Country Coaches Association boys and girls Class A/B state polls.

Both teams placed seventh at last weekend’s Mt. Baker Invitational, beating out several 4A and 3A schools.

For the boys, senior Brandon Thompson finished 11th overall in a time of 15:30.35, followed by Steven Miller (41st), Aaron Woodham (46th) and Alex Croutworst (53rd).

Sophomore Melody Miles led the girls with a time of 19:43.93 and finished 28th overall, followed by Heidi Kieling (38th), Rachel Wagner (58th) and Samantha Smart (79th).

King’s was the only Class A school to place higher than 13th.CRUSADERS IN FIRST: At the midpoint of the Northwest A/B League boys soccer season, Shoreline Christian remains in the thick of the playoff hunt.

The Crusaders (3-2 league, 6-3-1 overall) have won four of their last five games to move into a tie for first place in the large schools division with Archbishop Murphy and Mount Vernon Christian.

During that stretch, Shoreline Christian has outscored its opponents 14-5. AD SHUFFLE: Shorewood, Shorecrest and Shoreline Christian School all have new athletic directors.

Former Shorewood athletic director and Shoreline School District athletic director Rich Gustafson has returned to Shorewood after spending the last six years in the Mukilteo School District.

Shorecrest girls basketball and track and field coach Don Dalziel has replaced Andrew Cain as the school’s athletic director.

Longtime Shoreline Christian School volleyball co-coach Jill Hoogerhyde has replaced Dennis Roosendaal as athletic director at SCS.STAT ATTACK: Rachel Botham, Tiffany Passi and Karissa Thomsen placed second third and fifth to guide the Shorewood girls x-country team to victory in a Wesco 4A South Division four-team meet Oct. 4 at Hamlin Park … the Shorewood boys tennis team’s winning streak is up to 43 matches and counting.
