Shorewood’s Kevin Young and Jeff Schomaker and Shorecrest’s Derek DuPree helped the Wesco South seniors sweep a doubleheader from their Wesco North counterparts June 7 at Husky Ballpark.

Young was 3-for-5 with an RBI and Schomaker was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI in the South’s 11-4 first victory of the day.

DuPree was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in the South’s 11-10 comeback win in the second game.

Ten seniors from each team were nominated for consideration for the annual all-state series June 13-14 at Eastmont High School in Wenatchee.

Players in the all-state series are then eligible to be picked for the Washington state team that will play against seniors from Oregon and Idaho.

Wesco South nominees are: Kevin Young, Shorewood; Jeff Schomaker, Shorewood; Derek DuPree, Shorecrest; Brian Jackson, Shorecrest; John Cronin, Everett; Josh Waite, Edmonds-Woodway; Ryan Strieby, Mountlake Terrace; Steve Griffith, Kamiak; Chris Gustafson, Kamiak; and Tyler Haggett, Meadowdale. HEPTATHLETE: Shorewood senior Nanda McCormick tallied 3,777 points to finish 10th in the heptathlon at the Dennis McDonald Washington high school decathlon/heptathlon championships June 6-7 at Lake Washington High School.
