Primary election Sept. 16 – don’t forget to vote

The primary election is Sept. 16 and will include local races in Shoreline and Lake Fores Park.. In each race, the two candidates with the most votes in this primary election will face each other in the Nov. 4 general election.

In Shoreline, George Daher, Rich Gustafson and Cindy Ryu are running for the position 2 seat on the Shoreline City Council, currently held by Gustafson. Brian Doennebrink, Bob Ransom and Janet Way are vying for the position 6 seat held by Ransom.

In Lake Forest Park, Carolyn Armanini, Don Quale and Dave Hutchinson are running for the mayoral seat, currently held by Hutchinson.

Other regional races include King County Assessor and seats on the King County Council, Seattle City Council, Port of Seattle Commission, Seattle Popular Monorail Authority, and the Court of Appeals. The election will be conducted at the polls as well as by absentee ballots requested by the voter. According to the county, there are 545 polling places servicing 2,613 precincts. There will be the usual ongoing absentee ballots of which approximately 470,000 are expected to be requested and mailed.

All voted mail ballots, in order to be valid, must be postmarked no later than Election Day, Sept. 16, county officials say. As of the cut-off date of Aug. 16, King County has 1,026,682 active registered voters.

King County Elections expects an overall countywide turnout of 35.6 percent, which is average for a primary, with an approximate 60 percent turnout among voters who vote by absentee ballot. Currently, 46 percent of King County voters have chosen to permanently vote by mail.

Absentee ballots may be obtained in person at the Elections Office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15 at the King County Administration Building, 500 Fourth Avenue, Room 553 Seattle, WA 98104

Per State law, no new absentee ballots may be issued on Election Day. Replacement ballots may be issued to voters who have already received an absentee ballot but have lost or damaged their original.
