SACRAMENTO, Calif. — University of Washington senior Heather Reichmann earned All-America honors with a school-record performance in the women’s javelin at the NCAA Track and Field Championships June 13 at Sacramento State.

The King’s High School graduate earned the accolade with her toss of 159 feet, 6 inches, four inches beyond her own school record.

Reichmann placed seventh overall, in the process becoming the first UW woman to score at a national meet since Seselia Thomas took eighth place in the discus in 2000.

Indiana’s Irina Kharun was the event winner with a collegiate-record throw of 202-10.

“What’s scary about Heather is that she is just beginning to realize her potential,” first-year Husky track coach Greg Metcalf said. “She’s a natural talent. I only wish that she had another year with us so that we could reap the benefits of the things she’s going to accomplish in the future.”

Ranked 18th entering the NCAA meet, Reichmann advanced to the finals with a throw of 157-2 in the qualifying round. Earlier this year Reichmann set the previous school record of 159-2, despite competing only sparingly in her first three seasons due to participation with the UW women’s basketball team.
