Meadowdale residents are a step closer to safer places to walk after the Edmonds City Council gave the green light Sept. 26 to design work on new walkways and a mini park in their neighborhood.
Gray &Osborne, Inc. of Seattle has been awarded a contract to research and create preliminary designs for a walkway on 76th Avenue W. and 75th Place W. from the existing walkway near Meadowdale Beach Road to the Meadowdale County Park. Also part of the package is a small park/lookout at the intersection of 75th Place W. and 162nd Street SW.
Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2007 and be completed by the end of the year, according to city engineer Dave Gebert.
Last spring the city appropriated $125,000 for the design phase of the improvements Meadowdale residents have been asking for due to the dangerous pedestrian situation in the vicinity of 76th Avenue W. The projects are included in the 2007-08 capital budget that’s been submitted by staff.
The requested amount is $945,000 for the 76th/75th walkway and $300,000 for the 162nd Street park.
