Road to grandma’s house may be slowed by construction

Road construction projects throughout south Snohomish County will continue through the winter months.

The following are a list of current projects, their impact and probable completion dates.

148th Street SE, between 43rd Av SE and 44th Dr SE (Mill Creek vicinity). A single lane closure will be in effect through Jan. 1, 2003, 7 am-4 pm., Mondays through Fridays. Barclays North will be installing water and frontage improvements. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.*

164th St SW (Lynnwood vicinity). This is a 3-year Snohomish County road project, which began in July 2002 and will continue through 2004. This is the last of seven coordinated stages of improvements extending from Mill Creek to Lynnwood City Limits. Phase I of this stage will be completed by the end of this year. It involves building a retaining wall in the northeast quadrant of the 164th St SW/Manor Way intersection and two detention ponds, one just east of SR 525 and one between Swamp Creek and 22nd Ave W. Crews will be working mainly off the roadway, Mondays through Fridays, from approximately 7:00am – 4:00pm. Phase II will occur in 2003 and 2004. The completed roadway will have two travel lanes in each direction plus a continuous center turn lane, bicycle lanes, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and streetlights.

168th St SE at 31st Dr SE &intersection of 170th Pl SE &29th Dr SE (Mill Creek vicinity). A single lane closure will be in effect Dec 16 – Feb 28, 7:00am – 4:00pm, Mondays through Fridays. Mainline Construction will be making frontage improvements and installing utilities.

132nd St SE Extension, Seattle Hill Rd to SR 9 (east of Mill Creek). Now, and throughout the winter months between construction seasons, at least three lanes of traffic will be open on 132nd Street SE from Seattle Hill Road to Snohomish Cascade Drive. All intersections along this section of road are accessible, although drivers should expect some delays. Construction also is underway on a new one-mile section of 132nd Street SE between the Thomas Creek Bridge and SR 9. This new section, which will be called Cathcart Way, will provide a new east-west through-route to SR 9 when it is completed by summer 2003. Crews are working daily from approximately 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., although they may extend their hours on any given day to avoid bad weather. Drivers should expect frequent delays through the area and are encouraged to take alternate routes such as Puget Park Drive and 148th Street SE. PEDESTRIANS ARE URGED TO EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION WHILE WALKING OR BICYCLING THROUGH THE AREA. Project information is updated regularly on the hotline, 425-388-3993.

146th St SW, 148th St SW, Larch Way (Lynnwood vicinity). A single lane closure will be in effect through Jan 9, 2003, 7:00am – 5:00pm, Mondays through Fridays. The McNaughton Group is installing water and sewer systems and making frontage improvements in conjunction with the Lacey Meadows plat.

148th St SE, between 43rd Ave SE &44th Dr SE (Mill Creek vicinity). A single lane closure will be in effect Nov 22 – Jan 22, 7:00am – 400pm, Mondays through Fridays. Barclays North will be installing water and frontage improvements in conjunction with the Kingsridge Phase II plat.

35th Ave SE, just south of 132nd to just north of Seattle Hill Rd (Mill Creek vicinity). This road is now OPEN to through traffic. TriState Construction crews completed the first stage of work 3 weeks ahead of schedule. Even though the road is open again to through traffic, it will continue to be a work zone for many months. The road is a temporary surface and drivers will need to proceed carefully. “The speed limit in the immediate work zone is reduced to 25 m.p.h. to improve driver and worker safety,” says Construction Manager Bill Ryan. 46th Dr SE, from 117th St SE, south to 126th St SE, east to 48th Dr SE, south to 127th Pl SE,west to 47th Ave SE, south to 1342nd St SE, east to SeattleHill Rd (SE Everett vicinity) will be in effect through Dec 23, 7:00am – 4:00pm, Mondays through Fridays.

3rd Ave SE, just south of 164th St SE (Lynnwood vicinity). A single lane closure is in effect through Dec. 31, 7:00am – 4:00pm, Mondays through Fridays. Verizon is completing installation of a cabinet enclosure.

Meadow Rd, between 143rd Pl SW and 14404 Meadow Rd (Lynnwood vicinity). A single lane closure is in effect 7:00am – 6:00pm daily through Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003. Echelbarger Investments is installing sewer and water lines and making frontage improvements for the Hannah Lane plat.

Oak Rd &18th Ave W intersection (Lynnwood vicinity). A single lane closure will be in effect through Feb 28, 2003, 7:00am – 4:00pm, Mondays through Fridays. Verizon NW will be installing a concrete encased conduit system.

Larch Way, between 164th &King Pl (Lynnwood vicinity)

A single lane closure will be in effect through Dec 23, 8:00am – 5:00pm, Mondays through Fridays. Edward K &S Construction Inc. will be working on a sewer system in conjunction with Martha Lake Landing.

SR 99, between 168th St SW &148th St SW, just south of the Mukilteo Speedway. This road improvement project, which began in 1999 at 242nd St SW (the King County line), is continuing north. Washington State Department of Transportation, the coordinating and funding agency, is working with the City of Lynnwood and Snohomish County Public Works to improve this portion of the road. When complete, the roadway will include 7 lanes: one “transit emphasis lane” and 2 travel lanes in each direction, plus a center turn lane. There will also be sidewalks, curbs and gutters; and signal improvements at the intersections of 196th, 168th, 156th and 148th streets SW. Stormwater facilities along the route will help water quality and reduce downstream flooding. A new asphalt overlay will be applied to the entire width of the roadway.
