Edmonds’ Swamp Creek &Western Railroad Association presents its 17th Annual Rollin’ Rails March 2, a hands-on train show designed to introduce young children — and “children” of all ages — to model trains.
The event features big Lionel trains, Lego trains kids can build and play with, American Flyer trains and tracks on the carpet, and some scale modular layouts by local hobbyists. Children are encouraged to touch and run some of the trains; many of the exhibits are built to the height of a 5-year-old.
The Swamp Creek &Western Railroad Association maintains a permanent layout in the Edmonds Amtrak station, and aims to preserve the community’s railroad heritage. That layout will also be open during the show hours on March 2.
The “Rollin’ Rails” Operating Model Railroad Show takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 2 at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., Edmonds. Adult admission is $4; children under 12 are free. For more information call Bruce Harris at 425-483-3322 or contact Ron Bartels at judithandronald@ msn.com.
