Shorecrest sophomore Courtney White has been invited to the selection camp for the U.S. Junior Women’s National Rowing Team, June 11-30 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
USRowing puts on the annual camp to produce boats with the ability to win medals for the United States at the Junior World Rowing Championships.
“As a sophomore this is quite an honor for Courtney,” said Bruce Beall, director of rowing for Pocock Rowing Center and a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic Rowing Team. ”Most athletes who make the junior selection camp are juniors and seniors.”
White earned the invitation by pulling the eighth best rowing ergometer score among junior women in the U.S. She is part of a group of 35 rowers and six coxswains who were selected from over 300 candidates.
The U.S. Junior Women’s National Team will be comprised of 10 to 14 rowers and one coxswain who will represent the United States at the 2003 Junior World Championships this August in Athens, Greece.
