The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council is celebrating two-fold as it hosts an open house reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 to mark its 15th anniversary and the opening of a new art exhibition at the SAC’s Gallery in the Shoreline Center.
Since incorporating in September 1989, the Arts Council has provided increasingly diverse opportunities in all the arts. The Shoreline Arts Festival is now the largest event of its kind in the area. Last year the Arts Council awarded $22,000 in grants to put artists in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park schools. Other programs include Readers’ Theater, August Arts Camp, scholarships, and the Arts in Culture and Children’s performance series. Concerts in the Parks were greatly enhanced this summer with the purchase of a Showmobile stage. The Arts Council’s Portable Works collection may be seen in local city halls, police stations, elected official’s offices, the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation office and Shoreline Bank.
Jeff Lewis, President and CEO of Shoreline Bank is the recipient of the Arts Council’s heART award this year. The award is given to a person who exemplifies outstanding support for the arts in the community. In addition to being a catalyst for relationships between organizations and businesses, Lewis also spearheaded the recent campaign for the Showmobile stage.
Featured gallery artists Ann Blanch, Roxine McQuitty, Janet Silbergeld and Jodi Waltier will also be on hand at the reception, which also opens a group exhibition of paintings and printmaking by the artists that runs through Oct. 27. Live music will add to the festivities.
The Gallery at the Shoreline Center is located in the Community Wing of the Shoreline Center, 18560 1st Avenue NE in Shoreline. Regular gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by appointment. For more information visit www.shorelinearts.net or call 206-417-4645.
