Shoreline Community College is continuing its search for a new president. The four candidates competing for the job have been attending meetings in the last few weeks to become acquainted with staff, students and the community.
The public will get a chance to meet candidate G. Jeremiah Ryan at the last open house, held from 6 to 7 p.m. May 9 at the college.
The college hopes to hire a new president by July 1.
The final candidates are:
• Randall Lawrence, vice president of instruction at Olympic College. Lawrence was Dean for Social Sciences and Humanities at Olympic College January 1997 through October 2002. He was a Professor of Vocal Music at Olympic College from September 1987 through December 1996. He has a doctorate in musicology from the University of Cincinnati and a master’s degree in choral conducting from the University of Cincinnati.
• Mark Palek, president of Spokane Falls Community College. Palek was Vice President of Learning at the college from June 2000 to July 2001. He was Associate Dean of Instruction: Academic Programs at South Seattle Community College from October 1994 to June 2000. He has a doctorate in education in curriculum and instruction from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in political science from Rutgers University.
• G. Jeremiah Ryan, president emeritus at Raritan Valley Community College in Somerville, N.J. Ryan has been Doctoral Advisor and National Adjunct Professor for the education doctoral program at the Fischler Graduate School of Education and Human Services in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. from 1990 to the present. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of Raritan Valley Community College from March 2000 to December 2005. He has an education doctorate in higher education from Nova Southeastern University and a master’s degree in educational administration from the State University of New York at Albany. He also has a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Stanford University.
• William Scroggins, interim president at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, Calif. He was Vice President for Instruction at the college from January 2002 to July 2004 and Dean of Math and Science at San Bernadino Valley College in San Bernadino, Calif. from October 2000 to January 2002. He has a doctorate in chemistry from the University of California, Riverside.
