Drug prevention session upcoming

A Parent’s Guide to Drug Prevention workshop for parents will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 in the Cascade High School library. A light dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

At the workshop, parents will explore what makes teens particularly vulnerable to seeking drugs to cope with adolescence.

The workshop will be presented by Nancy Gagliano, who works with project SAFE, a program of Cocoon House.

For information, contact Lyn Lauzon, drug and alcohol counselor at Jackson High School, at 425-385-7178.

Gateway seeks volunteers

Gateway Middle School seeks parent volunteers for its Walk-About Program. Volunteers in the program serve as an extra pair of eyes and ears and assist the staff with monitoring student behavior outside of class hours.

Volunteers do not need to discipline or intervene in a fight. Instead, they report that behavior to administrators.

The school needs volunteers before school and during lunch.

For more information contact Jerry Washington at Jwashington@everett.wednet.edu.

Geography preview planned

There will be an open house for public review of middle school materials being considered for adoption, specifically “Geography Alive,” published by Teachers’ Curriculum Institute Geographic Series World Cultures and World Regions.

The open house will be held from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 4 at Everett Public Schools Educational Service Center, 4730 Colby Ave. in Everett.

For information, contact Humanities Curriculum Specialist Allison Larsen at 425-385-4063.
