The following scholarships are available to local students:

• The Professional Photographers of Washington has announced its 2006 Student Photographer of the Year award.

First place will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The application deadline is April 15 and a winner will be announced in June.

• The Bob Drewel Human Services scholarship would award a maximum of $1,500.

Applicants must be high school graduates and working or volunteering in the health and human services field in Snohomish County. It is not intended for high school seniors or GED students.

Applicants must also be Washington residents and planning to attend or attending an accredited college or university and working toward a degree or certificate related to human services.

Deadline is May 1. For applications please call Human Services Council of Snohomish County at 425-252-1244 or request an on-line application by e-mailing humansc@msn.com.

• The YMCA of Greater Seattle is currently accepting applications for college scholarships in the amount of $1,000 – $2,500 per school year. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of leadership, participation in school, YMCA involvement, community activities, academic achievement, honors, financial need, work experience, statement of career and educational goals and recommendations. Applications are due April 1.

• The Alderwood Garden Club is offering a $750 scholarship to a student who will be pursuing a course of study in horticulture or a horticulture-related field.

The scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors or students enrolled in the Edmonds Community College Horticulture program.

Deadline for submitting applications is May 4. For applications or more information or an application, contact Jeanne Bray at 425-743-2845. Applications are also available in each high school’s counselor’s office.
