Candidate filings for school board

This week, July 25-29, all persons interested in filing to run for the Edmonds School Board Districts 2 and 4 must do so with the Snohomish County auditor’s office. As of the Enterprise’s deadline, incumbent Bruce Williams, an Edmonds resident, was the only person to file. Williams currently serves the board as its president and is completing his second term in office. He was first elected to the board for District 4 in 1997. District 4 represents parts of Edmonds and Lynnwood; District 2 represents parts of Lynnwood, Brier and Mountlake Terrace.

Make friends, host an EdCC student

Each year more than 400 international students live with local families while they attend Edmonds Community College. Most students stay for a year or more while they complete degrees and others come for a week or two to learn English and live with an American family. The college has two groups of students arriving from Japan for short stays in September.

Families interested in other cultures and considering hosting an international student can get more information about the college’s homestay program at an orientation meeting from 8:30 a.m.-noon, Aug. 20. Call Housing Director Luke Botzheim at 425-640-1080 or complete an application at http://housing.edcc.edu for details. Host families receive a stipend to help cover a portion of the costs.
