Gain tips for applying to college
Meadowdale and Mountlake Terrace high schools again are hosting a Junior-Sophomore College Planning Night at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29 at Meadowdale High School. The event is open to all students and families of sophomores and juniors from the Edmonds School District.
This year, the keynote speaker will be Keith White, who is the immediate past-president of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and a regional admissions counselor for Marquette University. He has also served as the director of admissions for the University of Wisconsin.
Representatives from the University of Washington, Washington State, University of Oregon, Cornish College of the Arts, Carroll College, Saint Martins College and American Express Financial Planners also will present.
Topics will include: financing a college education; college athletics and the NCAA; advising the artistically talented student; applying to universities in Washington state; writing college admission essays; applying to selective colleges; applying to put-of-state colleges; and choosing a liberal arts college.
Students organize carnival at MHS
Meadowdale High School is hosting a carnival from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 26 in the parking lot at Meadowdale. Everyone is invited. Don’t miss out on the games, prizes, inflatables, food and stage entertainment. There is no admission cost. Tickets will be sold to participate in activities. ‘Tom Sawyer’ at Madrona
Opening night of Madrona K-8’s production of “Adventures of Tom Sawyer” is 7 p.m. Thursday, March 31 at Edmonds-Woodway High School. The show will also run at 7 p.m. April 1-2, 1 p.m. April 2-3 and 6 p.m. April 3. Call Dawn at 425-771-0886 for tickets. They are $9 for adults and $6 for children and seniors.
Wells Fargo donates to district
Wells Fargo was scheduled to donate $4,170 to the Edmonds School District March 17 through its Team Up for Our Schools program, which was created in 2003 to help financially support public schools during times of significant budget cuts. The $4,170 donation was based on the number of qualifying Wells Fargo consumer checking account packages opened last summer at Wells Fargo stores located within the school district.
Through the Team Up for Our Schools program Wells Fargo has donated a two-year combined total of nearly $200,000 to Washington school districts.
Traffic safety class offered
Any student 15 and older can receive high quality instruction, including guest speakers, through the Shoreline School District’s traffic safety program. After-school classes (fall, winter, spring) meet at Shorecrest and Shorewood high schools. Next sessions: March 28 through June 9 and Summer School June 28 through July 28.
