Work training grants at EdCC and EvCC
Workers interested in advanced manufacturing training at Edmonds and Everett community colleges may be eligible to receive grants of up to $5,000 for tuition and books. In January 2007, Everett Community College and its Snohomish County workforce and education partners received a three-year $2 million dollar Triad II grant from the United States Department of Labor to award the grants.
Students can use the funds to earn a degree or certificate in Precision Machining, Welding and Fabrication, Aviation Maintenance Technology or Computer Aided Design at Everett Community College. They can also use the funds in Materials Science Technology at Edmonds Community College, a field of engineering used to develop stronger and lighter high-tech composite materials for use in jets, boats and medical devices.
Those interested in advanced manufacturing programs at Everett Community College can call Melissa Helmenstine, 425-388-9072 or e-mail mhelmenstine@everettcc.edu. For information, see www.everettcc.edu.
Those interested in receiving the grants to train for Materials Science Technology at Edmonds Community College can call Stephanie Brockhaus at 425-640-1039 or e-mail Stephanie.Brockhaus@edcc.edu. For more information about Materials Science programs at the college call 425-640-1145 or go to mtech.edcc.edu.
Both schools are now enrolling for fall classes.
Two programs raise money for Gateway MS
Locals can raise money for Gateway Middle School through the Upromise Schools Program and the eScrip program.
The Upromise Schools Program helps families raise money for college while raising funds for their school. The program is free and puts money in a college savings account for parents after they register. To earn college savings and funds for Gateway, locals buy things they would ordinarily buy, including groceries, gas, dining out, travel and online shopping.
To register, go to www.upromise.com/schools and click on “Join Upromise Now.” Enter the zip code 98208 when prompted to enter a school location. Select and add “Gateway Middle School PTSA.”
A complete list of participating stores, restaurants and products can be found at www.upromise.com/schools.
For more information or tips on how to register successfully, contact Dori Mashburn, vice president of fundraising for Gateway PTSA, at dmashburn@staffordfrey.com or call her at (425) 337-7416 with questions.
As for the eScrip program, parents can participate by registering their Safeway card with Gateway PTSA.
Through Sept. 4, Gateway PTSA receives an additional 10 percent bonus when locals use their Safeway Club Card. eScrip will award an additional $1,000 to 250 schools with the highest earnings.
To register a card, e-mail your name, telephone number and Safeway card number to Dori Mashburn, vice president of fundraising for Gateway PTSA, at dmashburn@staffordfrey.com and she will register your card.
Call Mashburn at (425) 337-7416 with questions.
