Event celebrates Shoreline schools

The Shoreline Public Schools Foundation will host the annual community breakfast and luncheon titled “Celebrating Education – Building on 60 Years of Success,” from 7 to 8:30 a.m. and noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 1 in the Shoreline Room of the Shoreline Center, 18560 First Ave. NE.

Children’s center hosts open house

The Shoreline Children’s Center will host an open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 29 at 1900 N. 170th St.

The event is geared towards giving prospective families the opportunity to meet the teachers, principal, tour the facility and learn more about the curriculum and programs offered. According to district officials, children who attend preschool programs at the Shoreline Children’s Center are able to attend Shoreline Schools for the next 12 years regardless of location of residence. ‘Eggshells’ earns top honors

The Shorewood drama group on Saturday, March 20 earned two prestigious awards at the Washington State Thespian Festival at Western Washington University.

The students will perform their original play, titled Eggshells, at the school March 26 and 27. The students involved include: Brynne Bannister, Chelsea Brandon, Kaitlin Carver, Daniel Christensen, Jeff Echert, Molly Gillette, Sam Kellett, Stephanie Malinowski, Rachel Moffat, Emily Piro, Patrick Quigley, Kyle Reardon, Aaron Reichgott, Clara Siegel, Jordan Smith, Gretta Stimson, Lindsay Woods, Jarrod Wright, Patrick Burke and Kieron McKay. The group is lead by English and drama instructor Barb Lachman.

Job Fair seeking interested youths

WorksSource of Snohomish County will host its annual youth job fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 27 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Lynnwood.

The free event offers an opportunity for job seekers ages 14 to 21 to bring resumes and meet with business representatives about employment opportunities. Participating businesses include Washington Mutual, Lowe’s, Fred Meyer, Safeway, McDonald’s, United Parcel Service, Hollywood Video, Everett AquaSox and Snohomish County Parks and Recreation.

There are many available positions for youth job seekers. Dan Lewis of the Everett AquaSox said, “We have approximately 50 openings. These are seasonal, day-of-game positions. We are looking to hire employees in the following areas: clean team (our clean up crew), concourse game attendants, food and beverage, gates, grounds crew, mascot, parking attendants, section leaders, souvenir sales and ticket sales.”

Information about WorkSource programs, local community colleges and vocational training schools also will be available. Four workshops also will be presented to teach interested youth how to get jobs without experience, create quality resumes, get a career without college through training and helpful interview tips.
