College president joins state council
Everett Community College President Charlie Earl recently was appointed by Gov. Gary Locke to serve on the Washington Competitiveness Council.
Earl will co-chair the Workforce training for high demand fields committee with Sally Jewel, chief operating officer of REI. Earl attended the first meeting Oct. 7.

Students Dare to Dream at EvCC
Everett Community College will host its second annual Snohomish County Students of Color Career Conference “Dare to Dream,” from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15 in the Parks Student Union on campus.
The event is free and open to the public.
“Dare to Dream” is geared towards middle and high school students and parents and offers opportunities to meet professionals of color and discussions on jobs, careers and educational options.
The keynote speaker will be Estakio Beltran, a former foster child who is now a junior at Gonzaga University and Washington State representative to The Orphan Foundation of America.
Information on college admissions and financial aid also will be available.
Band Nights at Northshore YMCA
Staff at the Northshore YMCA is inviting all 9th- and 12th-graders to Band Nights, featuring local high school bands jamming from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in the family gym, 11811 NE 195th St in Bothell.
