Open house at St. Marks scheduled

PTAs host ‘adolescence’ talk

“The Big Launch — Building Blocks of Successful Adolescence and Beyond” will be presented at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Shorecrest High School Theatre.

Laura Kastner, Ph.D, a nationally known speaker and author will speak on the “launching years” and how children and parents can successfully navigate the complicated process of transition.

This presentation is co-sponsored by Shorecrest, Kellogg, Shorewood and Einstein PTSAs.

Shoreline Kinderfest set

Kinderfest 2003 will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Jan. 25 in the Shoreline room at the Shoreline Center, 18560 1st Ave. NE. Sponsored by the Shoreline School District, Kinderfest provides an opportunity for parents who will be enrolling their children in kindergarten for the 2003-04 school year to hear about the school districts kindergarten program.

Topics which will be covered include kindergarten curriculum, registration procedures, transportation, health and safety issues, before/after school care, immunization requirements, all day and half day programs, classroom visitation.

Kindergarten registration for the 2003-04 school year begins on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Parents can register their child at the school in their attendance area between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. any school day, and until 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 28 only. Kindergarten registration materials will be available in all elementary school offices beginning Jan. 21.

Shoreline foundation grants

New programs funded through Classroom Grant awards from the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation are beginning to be implemented into classrooms.

These awards include five district-wide and multi-school programs: $750 for the Shoreline Talent Showcase, $100 to support the Shoreline Math Olympiad, $1,442 for Big 6-Big Impact!, all-district reading research project, $750 to defray costs of National History Day Contest in Washington and $1,950 for new bagpipes for Shoreline Youth Pipe Band.

Tropical Nights at Shorewood HS

The Shorewood High Boosters seventh annual dinner, silent and live auction, titled “Tropical Nights,” is set for Saturday, March 1. Auction donations are still being accepted, and the proceeds of this event directly benefit Shorewood High School clubs, teams and activities. Tickets are $30 per guest if purchased by Feb. 1 and $40 after that date.
