Shorewood High School presents ‘Snow Angel’

Shorewood High School drama presents “Snow Angel” at 7:30 p.m. May 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12 in the school’s theater at 17300 Fremont Ave. N. in Shoreline. Tickets are $6 and $7, available at Beach House Greetings, 626 NW Richmond Beach Road.

When the quiet town of Deerpoint, Va., is hit by a blizzard, a mysterious girl named Eva steps out of a snow bank and into the lives of 15 teenagers who are asked to help her in a search. What Eva’s searching for — and who she truly is — becomes a mystery that baffles, divides and energizes the teens of Deerpoint.

The play is most appropriate for upper elementary students and older.

SCC student runs Boston Marathon

Shoreline Community College student and Special Olympian Andy Bryant ran the Boston Marathon April 16, completing the 26.2-mile race in just over three hours. The 25-year-old beat his personal best by nearly three minutes, placing 1,372nd out of more than 20,000 runners.

This is Bryant’s fourth marathon. The young athlete broke a record in the October 2005 Portland City Marathon, completing the race in just three hours, 18 minutes and 38 seconds. The prior record for the winner in the Special Olympic Division was three hours, 38 minutes.

Bryant, who has autism, began taking classes at the college in January 2005 as a Community Integration Program (CIP) student. The CIP is a branch of the Office of Special Services that serves adults with developmental disabilities.

‘Wizard’ on tap at Shorecrest

Click your heels three times and follow the yellow brick road as you travel once again to the magical Land of Oz. Shorecrest High School drama performs “The Wizard of Oz” at 7:30 p.m. May 11, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. May 12, at 2 p.m. May 13, at 7:30 p.m. May 18, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. May 19, and at 2 p.m. May 20 at the Shorecrest Performing Arts Center, 15343 25th Ave. NE in Shoreline.

SCC plants at Boeing Creek for Earth Day

Saturday, April 21, about 30 Shoreline Community College students, faculty and community members pulled ivy and planted nearly 80 native plants at Boeing Creek in honor of Earth Day. The college’s Environmental Club donated funds to purchase plants and Mid-Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group donated 50 conifers.

Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist at SCC

The public is invited to see Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Jerry Gay share photos and stories at a lecture at Shoreline Community College 10:30 a.m. May 8 in the campus theater.

Gay has driven 50,000 miles of America’s highways and back roads over a three-year period to document the often hidden realities of our daily existence, capturing on film the heroic among us who appear to live ordinary lives in ordinary places. Via these photographs, a sense of humor and philosophical perceptions, Gay shares his uncommon wisdom and reverence for life.

In addition to his newspaper photojournalist work for The Seattle Times, Gay also has experience as a magazine and Web site publisher, an educator and a lecturer.

‘Obstruction Island’ musical on tap

The Music and Theatre Departments of Shoreline Christian School present the musical “Obstruction Island.” Set on a tiny mythical island in Puget Sound, the story revolves around the characters at an old bed and breakfast on a stormy winter weekend.

Performances are at Watson Groen Memorial Gymnasium on the Shoreline Christian School campus May 3 through May 5 at 7:30 p.m. each evening with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased by calling the school office at 206-364-7777.
