Shoreline Schools going on the air
The Shoreline Public Schools will take to the airwaves on cable channel 26 to demonstrate the use of multiple location video as a valuable communication tool internally and externally that is cost effective for delivering professional development, distance learning and student productions.
New student kick-off at Shorecrest
Shorecrest High School will welcome new students and their parents at 7 p.m. on Aug. 28 at the Shorecrest Gymnasium. Members of the class of 2006 will introduce Shorecrest High and the “Highlander Spirit.” Tours of the school, a chance to meet teachers, locate classrooms and get questions answered about Shorecrest programs will highlight the kick-off activities.
YMCA before- and after-school care
The Shoreline/South County YMCA offers before- and after-school child care programs for kindergarten to elementary-age children. The services are designed to match the school calendars.
Care is offered before and after the regular school day. Additional care is offered for early release and conference days. Shoreline YMCA serves Ridgecrest, Briercrest, Parkwood, North City, Brookside, Echo Lake, Merdian Park elementary schools in Shoreline; Chase Lake Elementary in Edmonds and Beverly Elementary in Lynnwood.
Subsidized child care programs such as DSHS and King County Child Care Assistance are accepted. YMCA financial assistance is available for qualifying families. For more information or to register, contact the Shoreline/South County YMCA at 206-364-1700.
Library needs study volunteers
Help students from elementary through high school with homework at the library. A two hour per week commitment is all that is needed. As a volunteer, you will be trained to be familiar with the library and its procedures and resources. You would help students in any of a number of subject areas. For more information, contact Anne Holloman at 425-369-3312.
YWCA needs
school supplies
The YWCA needs help in giving 380 King County youth a smart start to the 2002-2003 school year. YWCA Schools Days is a program that provides children and youth from homeless and low-income families with a “Back to School Basics” pack — a backpack filled with a mix of basic school supplies, clothing, shoes or gift certificates.
With two weeks to go, 380 of the 600 King County children who have signed up to receive the packs still need sponsorship. Call today to become a sponsor. Sponsors receive a profile of a child for whom they purchase a “Back to School Basics” pack. (A new outfit, a pair of shoes and general school supplies can be purchased for as little as $100).
All items must be delivered to the YWCA in order to be distributed to youth before the first day of school. One-time financial donations also help us purchase the supplies and gift certificates. To get involved contact Brenda McCallon at 206-461-3214.
Middle schools change schedules
The start and dismissal times for Einstein and Kellogg middle schools have been changed for the 2002-2003 school year. School will start at 8:10 a.m. and dismiss at 3 p.m. at each building.
