Foundation raises money for local schools

The 13th annual Everett Public Schools Foundation Benefit Breakfast March 22 at the Everett Event Center raised $78,000 for the foundation. The proceeds will provide funds for tuition support for all-day kindergarten and summer school for low-income students and will provide innovative learning experiences for over 10,000 students through classroom grants.

The foundation’s mission is to develop and provide community support to strengthen academic achievement in the Everett Public Schools.

Keynote speaker Ross Bogue, vice president and general manager of commercial airplanes at the Everett Boeing plant, talked about the importance of education and skill sets needed. Superintendent Carol Whitehead presented the progress being made in test scores, on-time graduation, and construction projects in the district.

Call the foundation office at 425-385-4187 or visit the Web site at www.epsf.com for more information.

Art award and scholarship

March 27, the Everett Public Schools Foundation and the Everett School District honored students at the High School Art Show. Each year the foundation supports elementary, middle and high school art shows at the Administrative Service Center. The superintendent selects one piece from the high school display to add to the district collection that will hang permanently at the Administrative Service Center.

Ilona Palamarchuk’s rendering of flowers in a pitcher was chosen by Whitehead from among the high school work now on display as part of the foundation-sponsored art show. Palamarchuk will receive a $200 check from the Foundation in return for allowing the district to permanently display her oil titled “Sunday.”

In addition, the foundation provides a $1,000 Art Scholarship to a graduating senior in the Everett Public School District. Six seniors displayed and discussed their work with an interview team of community volunteers. The scholarship was awarded to Jeff Anzures of Cascade High School at the Art Show March 27.

‘Seussical the Musical’ coming to JHS

Jackson High School students are rehearsing for their second musical, “Seussical the Musical.” Based on Dr. Seuss’ work, the musical was chosen because of its connection to children and message that “a person’s a person, no matter how small.” Shows run at 7 p.m. April 20, 21, 27 and 28 at the school. Tickets are $3-$7. For more information, contact Kathi Guffey at kguffey@everettsd.org.
