‘Secret Garden’ at Shorecrest

Advance tickets are now on sale for the Shorecrest High School drama department’s fall production of “The Secret Garden,” opening 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 in the Shorecrest Performing Arts Center.

Based on the novel by children’s author Frances Hodgson Burnett, the story revolves around Mary Lennox, a young girl who is orphaned when her parents die in the cholera epidemic in India in the 1890’s. She is sent to live in her uncle’s dark and foreboding estate. Confused and depressed, Mary eventually discovers her dead aunt’s secret garden. She also discovers her young cousin, Colin Craven, who has become bedridden because he believes he is going to die. Through their shared experiences in the garden, both bring life back to the gloomy estate as they find strength in themselves.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday &Friday, Nov. 21 &22; 2 p.m. &7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23; 1 p.m. &5:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24; 7:30 p.m. Tuesday &Wednesday, Nov. 26 &27. The Shorecrest Performing Arts Center is located at 15343 25th Ave. NE. Reserved seat tickets priced at $7 and $8 are now on sale at volunteer ticket outlets Meredith’s at Lake Forest Park Towne Centre and Ostroms on 185th and Aurora.
