Sharks devour competition at championships

The Lynnwood Sharks swim team had a strong showing at last weekend’s Craze League championships, producing 25 first-place finishes at the six-team meet.

Competitors were divided into two groups. Swimmers 10-and-under competed Aug. 14 at the Mountlake Terrace Pavilion; swimmers 11-and-older competed Aug. 15 at Lynnwood Pool.

Francis Santiago had two of the Sharks’ victories in the boys 15-18 50-yard freestyle and 50 butterfly. Teammate Travis Grady won the boys 11-12 50 freestyle and 100 individual medley.

Kasia Sullivan captured the girls 15-18 100 individual medley and 50 butterfly. Ian Jellison won the boys 15-18 100 individual medley and the boys 15-18 50 breaststroke.

Other Lynnwood winners included: Kathryn Mataya (girls 11-12 100 freestyle), Sennen Klassen (boys 11-12 100 freestyle), Brittney Wynn (girls 13-14 100 individual medley), Kevin Ryan (boys 11-12 50 butterfly), Daniel Kissinger (boys 11-12 50 backstroke), Alex Zitnik (girls 13-14 50 backstroke), Amir Naimi (boys 11-12 50 breaststroke), Kevin Yang (boys 13-14 50 breaststroke), Jennifer Quick (girls 15-18 50 breaststroke), Jazmyn Callahan (girls 6-and-under 25 freestyle) and Kyle Curtis (boys 7-8 25 freestyle).

The Sharks also finished first in the following races: mixed 11-12 200 relay, mixed 15-18 200 medley, mixed 11-12 200 freestyle relay, mixed 13-14 200 freestyle relay, mixed 15-18 200 freestyle relay and mixed 7-8 100 freestyle relay.

Individual winners for the Yost Penguins were: Lizzy Teitzel (girls 13-14 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly), Kelly Maddox (boys 13-14 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke), Clara Smart (girls 15-18 50 backstroke), Derek Gamlam (boys 9-10 100 individual medley), Carrie Burg (girls 9-10 25 butterfly), Dan Brown (boys 9-10 25 butterfly), Joshaiah Clark (boys 7-8 25 backstroke), Stefan Ball (boys 9-10 50 backstroke) and Alejandro Uvence (boys 7-8 25 breaststroke).

Individual winners for the Mountlake Terrace Marlins were: Ali Behard Reza Abadi (boys 13-14 100 individual medley, 50 butterfly), Rebecca Lance (girls 15-18 50 freestyle), Meaghan Turgeon (girls 9-10 100 individual medley, 50 backstroke), Mary Christine Sardona (girls 9-10 50 freestyle), Lindsay Starostka (girls 7-8 25 butterfly, 25 backstroke), Kelsey Barrett (girls 6-and-under 25 backstroke), Shay Sheller (boys 6-and-under 25 backstroke) and Kevin Culala (boys 9-10 50 breaststroke).

The Marlins also won the mixed 13-14 200 yard medley and mixed 9-10 200 freestyle relay races.
