A copy of the Northshore / Shoreline edition of the multilingual resource guide titled Helpful Connections can be used for things such as learning how to address a letter, riding the bus, or finding child care.
The Northshore/Shoreline Community Network Cultural Awareness, Resources and Enrichment (CARE) Team is currently distributing 30,000 copies of guides available in English, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
A workshop and unveiling event on Thursday, Sept. 20, at Third Place Commons in Lake Forest Park helped place the guides in residents’ hands for the first time.
“Hopefully the people who come will be those who implement change,” Judy Parsons with the Northshore Shoreline Community Network said before the event.
The Northshore/Shoreline edition was adapted by the CARE team from a Helpful Connections edition originally created for East King County residents. Representatives from the Center for Human Services, City of Shoreline, Friends of Third Place Commons, Harborview Children’s Response Center, Hopelink, Look, Listen and Learn, Metrovation, Reiss Design, Northshore School District, Shoreline School District and Shoreline Community College met throughout the past year on a monthly basis to help with the guide.
“We had a real hard time with this first go-around to depict what this guide is going to be,” Caroline Shelton, co-chair of the Northshore Shoreline Community Network said. “It’ll be fun to see the excitement when people see (the guide).”
