Comments sought on parks services

The city of Shoreline is surveying residents to help create a plan for the future and to determine their satisfaction with city parks.

A comprehensive survey was mailed to randomly selected Shoreline households this week. Residents will be asked to rate their satisfaction with Shoreline’s existing parks, recreational facilities and cultural opportunities, and to identify unmet needs.

The survey is part of a yearlong planning process under the city’s Parks, Recreation and Open Space plan. This plan is updated every five years and guides future development of Shoreline’s parks system.

“The survey is a tool to evaluate how we can best serve our community,” said Wendy Barry, Shoreline’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Director. “We view the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department as a customer service business. Every few years we update our plans and priorities to make sure we are continuing to meet the changing needs of Shoreline citizens.”

The results will be added to other community input the city is gathering through stakeholder meetings, focus groups and community meetings. All information will be reviewed by the city to determine future parks priorities and needs. For more information about Shoreline Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, contact Wendy Barry at 206-546-3921.

Police start

Party Patrol

Because high school graduation time is approaching, Shoreline Police will begin deploying special emphasis patrols to focus on and enforce liquor law violations involving underage drinking.

These special patrols are being scheduled to coincide with the end of the school year, when there has historically been a significant increase in the occurrence of drinking parties and the related assaults, drunk driving accidents and deaths. These patrols will be adopting a “zero tolerance” policy towards any liquor related crimes which they encounter, said police.
