Shorelions win hoops title

The Shorelions basketball team won the Masters 7 gold medal at the Special Olympics state tournament held in Wenatchee, March 4-5.

The Shorelions beat the Everett Rattlesnakes 25-21 for the title March 5. The Shorelions defeated the Rattlesnakes 28-21 in a first-round game and knocked off the Bremerton Huskies 38-24 in the semifinals of the four-team tournament. This was the first state tournament appearance in basketball for the Shorelions who won a gold medal in baseball last year.

Team members, who range in age from 16 to 34 are: Zachary Wicklander, Jeremy Wynne, Zachary King, Lizzie van Dyck, Becca Hadfield, Anthony Fatica, Ryan Wokal, Claire Grandquist, Lisa Wokal and Chris Hahn. Coaches are Linda Wokal and Christy Wicklander.
